We traveled to Katy, TX to spend an early Christmas with the Dietrich side of the family. It has become a tradition that the weekend before Christmas (no matter what the date) is spent in Katy at Nana and Champa's house. Everybody ~ the 3 of us, my brother Zac and his girls, both sets of my Grandparents, my Uncle Cole and my Great Uncle Wallace travel in on Friday. Saturday is "Christmas Day" where we eat a huge meal and open presents around our tree. Neighbors from Goldstone come to visit and friends of the family drop by. It is a crazy day in a packed house and we love every minute of it!
Katy got a stroller for her dolls, a Little People doll house, a Weebles tree house and a Magnadoodle.... just to name a VERY few! We were also blessed to be showered with gift cards and savings bonds! Our little house in Dallas is already busting at the seams with new toys and we still have 2 Christmases to go!
Uncle Wallace (Katy's Great Great Uncle) was a great babysitter for the weekend! ...and yes, that is a 93 year old man sitting in a toddler rocking chair...
Uncle Cole, Lacey and Zac spreading some Christmas cheer!
The turkey carvers. Nana made 2 turkeys this year - one smoked outside overnight and the other traditional oven style. Rich carved the turkey at Thanksgiving and had turkey juice all over his shirt. This time he was prepared!
Not that this is a great picture of any of us.... but it happens to be the only family group picture we managed to take.
The gifts for the adults. The kiddos gifts are under the tree, but they take up all the room. So adult gifts are on, around, and on top of the fireplace. Good thing Santa wasn't coming down the chimney that day!!
Nana and Meme opening some gifts. Meme has the reputation of being the first one under the tree!
Tylar and Riley dig in too!
Sometimes the box is just as cool as the gift!
Champa explains the weather station to Granny and Grandpa.
Uncle Wally seems happy with his!
Nana and Champa gave their grandaughters GAP sweaters.
One of Katy's funny moments:
She received this candy cane filled with Hershey Kisses in her stocking. She took one look at it and knew just what to do! After watching Rich's Granddaddy and my Papa walk with thier canes - now Katy had a cane of her own!
Be silly with her Aunt Lacey and Uncle Zac!
We hope you have a great Christmas and we will enjoy the rest of ours. As Katy would say "Ho Ho HO!!"
